About Ruthie
Along my professional journey, I've had the privilege of watching people learn—not only by teaching new skills, but by learning to recognize the conditions that allow meaningful learning to emerge. I didn't arrive at this philosophy from a textbook. It emerged over thousands of hours sitting beside children, listening to families, mentoring clinicians, and paying attention to the small moments when learning quietly appeared. Those moments changed the questions I began asking—and ultimately became the foundation for Gateway Learning.
Over the past twenty-two years, I've worked alongside children, families, registered behavior technicians, aspiring behavior analysts, and clinical teams across home, school, clinic, and telehealth settings. These experiences continue to shape Gateway Learning's emphasis on thoughtful observation, environmental readiness, and meaningful participation.
What I’ve learned through practice:
Learning happens in relationships
Behavior is understood best in context
Families need to be heard before they can change
Progress depends on protecting the conditions that allow learning to continue
